The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a vehicle burglary in progress in the 3800 block of Macaw Lane in Reno, Nevada. The reporting person heard her garage door opening and immediately called for law enforcement.
At approximately 4:45 am, Deputies arrived in the area within minutes of receiving the suspicious circumstances call. The on scene deputies located various items which were removed from the reporting person’s vehicle. Deputies located a cigarette that was still smoldering near the stolen items. Nearby this residence, two packs of cigarettes were located on the street as was the cellophane wrapper from a cigarette pack. Deputies began searching the area and located what would turn out to be items from another vehicle burglary from the 3700 block of Hummingbird Drive. Deputies continued searching and that’s when a deputy located two male juveniles walking in the area. The deputy made contact with the juveniles and observed that these two male juveniles had been drinking alcoholic intoxicants. The deputy found the two male juveniles to be in possession of the exact same brand of cigarettes that were located at the initial crime scene as well as a couple baggies of loose change. One male juvenile was in possession of a pack of cigarettes without the cellophane. Also, there were distinctive shoe print patterns that matched these two male juveniles that were left at two crimes scenes. One of the male juveniles told deputies that the cigarettes were stolen from a vehicle parked located by one of the house at the 17400 block of Egret Lane. A Crime Scene Investigator processed all four crime scenes.
The two male juveniles were arrested and booked into the Jan Evans Juvenile Detention Facility on four (4) counts of Vehicle Burglary, four (4) counts of Conspiracy to Commit Burglary, three (3) counts of Possession of Stolen Property, two (2) counts of Destruction of Property, and one (1) count of Minor in Consumption.
If anyone has more information and/or is a resident who lives in the Cold Springs area that’s also been victimized, the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office encourages you to call 334-COPS or Secret Witness at 322-4900.
