Washoe County Deputies arrested a Sparks man after he allegedly shot and killed a dog in Spanish Springs the afternoon of Monday, February 1.
At approximately 3:15, deputies responded to a call of a “battery with a deadly weapon” which occurred at 700 block of Encanto Street. A male subject had been filling potholes in the street with dirt out of a pick up truck. Moments later, the subject was driving down the street in the truck when three dogs belonging to a homeowner ran out of the yard and chased the truck. One dog, Jasper, a black and white mixed breed, was running near the driver’s side door. The driver of the truck produced a handgun and shot the dog. Jasper fell and the other dogs returned home.
The homeowner’s teenage sons witnessed the incident and ran to assist the dog. The homeowner followed the suspect in his vehicle and called 911. Deputies were able to locate the suspect’s truck and initiated a traffic stop on La Mancha Street. They made contact with the driver, Marion Leonard Rogalla, 70 years of age, resident of Sparks, who was uncooperative and intoxicated.
Rogalla was arrested for Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol, Possession of a Firearm while Intoxicated, Discharging a Firearm from within a Vehicle, and Killing Another Person's Animal. His bail is set at $11,580.
