The Washoe County Sheriff's
Office is concerned with keeping the community informed about the
operation of the Sheriff's Office. One of the ways to accomplish
this is by regularly keeping the news media, and thereby the public,
informed of events involving the Sheriff's Office and its personnel.
The Public Information Officer (P.I.O.) coordinates this by acting
as a liaison between the Sheriff's Office and media representatives.
Duties include assisting reporters assigned to cover news stories
and providing them with general information at the scene of major
incidents. Our goal is to provide timely and factual information
to the community we serve.
The P.I.O.
is available 24 hours a day to respond to the scene of major incidents.

Washoe County Sheriff’s Office called for the evacuation of the Mills Lane Court Complex today when it was reported that two suspicious packages resembling backpacks were located unattended near the west side of the complex on Rainbow Street.
Sheriff’s Deputies worked in collaboration with Reno Fire Department, Reno Municipal Court Marshals, Reno Justice Court Staff, District Attorney’s Office and Court Administration to initiate an organized evacuation at approximately 11:30 this morning. The evacuation was quickly completed without incident.
Sierra Street remained open during this incident but Rainbow, River and Court streets were closed as a precaution.
The Regional Bomb Squad arrived and using the robot attempted to determine what was in the packages. A disruption device was used to determine that the contents did not pose a threat. The evacuation concluded at approximately 3:45 pm.
