The Washoe County Sheriff's
Office is concerned with keeping the community informed about the
operation of the Sheriff's Office. One of the ways to accomplish
this is by regularly keeping the news media, and thereby the public,
informed of events involving the Sheriff's Office and its personnel.
The Public Information Officer (P.I.O.) coordinates this by acting
as a liaison between the Sheriff's Office and media representatives.
Duties include assisting reporters assigned to cover news stories
and providing them with general information at the scene of major
incidents. Our goal is to provide timely and factual information
to the community we serve.
The P.I.O.
is available 24 hours a day to respond to the scene of major incidents.

The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office, State of Nevada - Office of Traffic Safety and the Joining Forces LE Agencies invite media to the Regional Public Safety Training Center to kick off the new “Click it or Ticket” campaign Friday, May 21at 10:00 am. Emergency Responders and friends and family of victims will share their stories emphasizing the importance of using seat belts. Officials from DPS and OTS will also be available for interviews.

Reporters are invited to test their skills on the Emergency Vehicle Driving Simulator. See how it feels to drive “code 3” safely in a simulator used to train local law enforcement – buckled up of course! They can also try the Seat Belt Convincer Trailer which simulates the feeling of a 4-5 mile per hour collision. Please come and be a part of this annual safety awareness, education and enforcement campaign and thank you for your support.
