The Washoe County Sheriff's
Office is concerned with keeping the community informed about the
operation of the Sheriff's Office. One of the ways to accomplish
this is by regularly keeping the news media, and thereby the public,
informed of events involving the Sheriff's Office and its personnel.
The Public Information Officer (P.I.O.) coordinates this by acting
as a liaison between the Sheriff's Office and media representatives.
Duties include assisting reporters assigned to cover news stories
and providing them with general information at the scene of major
incidents. Our goal is to provide timely and factual information
to the community we serve.
The P.I.O.
is available 24 hours a day to respond to the scene of major incidents.

On April 26, 2010 the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office responded to Renown Regional Medical Center on a report of a person who had been attacked with a Scythe.
Detectives interviewed the victim and witness who stated the victim had been attacked by his girlfriend’s ex-boyfriend Kevin Overton when they responded to his residence to collect the woman’s belongings. The victim stated he was first confronted by Overton as he sat in a vehicle, then the physical altercation moved outside the vehicle. The woman attempted to separate Overton from the victim when Overton retrieved a Scythe from his vehicle and swung it at the victim several times cutting him.
Both the victim and his girlfriend returned to their vehicle and attempted to drive away, Overton swung the scythe at the vehicle puncturing the trunk and breaking out the driver’s side window.
Overton was located at his residence and taken into custody.
