The Washoe County Sheriff's Office is concerned with keeping the community informed about the operation of the Sheriff's Office. One of the ways to accomplish this is by regularly keeping the news media, and thereby the public, informed of events involving the Sheriff's Office and its personnel. The Public Information Officer (P.I.O.) coordinates this by acting as a liaison between the Sheriff's Office and media representatives. Duties include assisting reporters assigned to cover news stories and providing them with general information at the scene of major incidents. Our goal is to provide timely and factual information to the community we serve.

The P.I.O. is available 24 hours a day to respond to the scene of major incidents.

Washoe County Sheriff’s Office reports an increase in overnight vehicle burglaries and stolen motor vehicle cases occurring in Galena, South Hills, Damonte Ranch, and the Virginia Foothills neighborhoods.

Often vehicle burglaries are occurring where items of value are kept in a vehicle in plain view.  Everything left in plain view could be of interest to a burglar and your vehicle could be their next target. By placing valuable items in the trunk, underneath the seat or secured inside your residence, burglars will be less likely to force their away into vehicles.  If at all possible, park your vehicles inside a garage.

The Sheriff’s Office also suggests that residents report any suspicious vehicles and/or persons in their neighborhoods.  Call 334-COPS for non-emergency incidents and 911 in case of an emergency.
