The Washoe County Sheriff's
Office is concerned with keeping the community informed about the
operation of the Sheriff's Office. One of the ways to accomplish
this is by regularly keeping the news media, and thereby the public,
informed of events involving the Sheriff's Office and its personnel.
The Public Information Officer (P.I.O.) coordinates this by acting
as a liaison between the Sheriff's Office and media representatives.
Duties include assisting reporters assigned to cover news stories
and providing them with general information at the scene of major
incidents. Our goal is to provide timely and factual information
to the community we serve.
The P.I.O.
is available 24 hours a day to respond to the scene of major incidents.

Washoe County Sheriff's Office conducted a pre-holiday alcohol sales operation on December 21, 2009 between the hours of 7PM and midnight. During this effort, a total of 8 establishments throughout Washoe County were visited by plain clothes deputies and a minor who was able to purchase alcohol at 6 of the businesses. Citations were issued to each of the clerks who sold alcohol to the minor.
Clerks working at Save Mart and Terrible’s, both on the corner of Pyramid and La Posada in Spanish Springs, did NOT sell to the minor.
Clerks were cited at the following establishments:
In North Valleys: Winner’s Corner, 19575 Hwy 395
General Store, 9425 Lemmon Drive
In Spanish Springs: Grampy’s, 222 Los Altos Parkway
The Lake Bar and Grill, 9716 Pyramid Hwy
In Reno: Knucklehead’s, 405 Vine Street
In Sparks: Food Mart, 2169 Prater Way
The deputies also checked to see if the businesses had properly trained their employees regarding alcohol sales. All were in compliance with training.
Selling alcohol to a minor is a misdemeanor crime punishable by up to 6 month in jail and/or a $1000 fine. The citation for this violation is $635. It is the desire of the Washoe County Sheriff's Office to curb the availability of alcohol to minors and reduce alcohol related incidents and deaths this holiday season.
